The contract involves the Replacement of Retaining Walls at Two Locations in the Region of Peel under Project 16-4520. The awarded work consists of the following key tasks:
Retaining Wall Replacement and Site Work
- Dixie Road, North of Courtneypark Drive:
- Replacement of three gabion retaining walls with new vegetated reinforced slopes.
- Replacement of one gabion slope protection with a new vegetated rock buttress.
- Bovaird Drive, East of Bramalea Road:
- Removal and replacement of an existing modular retaining wall with a new segmental retaining wall.
- Installation of a pedestrian railing for enhanced safety.
- Removal of the existing concrete toe wall and pedestrian barricade.
- Replacement of existing asphalt splash pad, asphalt sidewalk, and concrete sidewalk with a new asphalt multi-use pathway and concrete splash pad.
Additional Work Details
- Grading and site stabilization to accommodate the new retaining walls.
- Erosion and sediment control measures to prevent environmental impact.
- Traffic control and lane closures, as required, to ensure safety during construction.
- Vegetation removal restrictions apply: no removal between April 1 and August 31 to protect local habitats.
- Near or instream work prohibitions: no work permitted between April 1 and June 30.
Regulations and Compliance Requirements
The project must comply with the following regulations and standards:
- Environmental Compliance:
- Adherence to the Fisheries Act and Endangered Species Act (ESA) for habitat protection.
- Implementation of erosion and sediment control as per the Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS).
- Compliance with the Region of Peel’s Tree Protection Bylaw for vegetation preservation.
- Workplace and Safety Compliance:
- Conformance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations for on-site worker safety.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and traffic control measures in accordance with Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7.
- Ensuring all workers have Working at Heights and WHMIS 2015 certifications.
- Construction and Engineering Standards:
- Retaining walls must be built according to Ontario Building Code (OBC) structural guidelines.
- All concrete and paving work must meet OPSS 1350 – Concrete Materials and Production standards.
- Asphalt works to be completed in accordance with OPSS 310 – Hot Mix Asphalt Paving.
- Permits and Approvals:
- The contractor is responsible for obtaining all necessary building and environmental permits prior to work commencement.
- Any utility relocations or service interruptions require approval from Peel Region Public Works Department.
