Scope of Work
The contract involves the demolition of the Brewer Building, located at 200 Brewer Way, Ottawa, ON. The awarded work consists of the following key tasks:
Demolition and Site Restoration
- Hazardous Material Abatement
- Removal and off-site disposal of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, mercury, and silica, as per regulatory guidelines.
- Decontamination and disposal of contaminated waste as outlined in Schedule A of Section 02 81 01 – Hazardous Materials.
- Building Demolition
- Complete demolition of the Brewer Building, a single-storey structure with reinforced concrete walls and a Siporex roof system.
- Removal of structural elements including foundations, staircases, ramps, steel handrails, and adjacent stonework.
- Preservation of municipal light poles, sidewalks, bollards, and the Magnolia tree located in the courtyard.
- Utility Line Removal and Site Work
- Disconnection, capping, and removal of underground utilities, including water, gas, electricity, and sewer services.
- Coordination with Hydro Ottawa, Enbridge Gas, Bell Canada, and City of Ottawa for utility service terminations.
- Backfilling of voids left by demolition using clean fill in compliance with Section 31 23 33.01 – Excavating, Trenching, and Backfilling.
- Environmental and Safety Compliance
- Implementation of erosion control measures to prevent sediment runoff.
- Execution of dust suppression strategies as per Section 01 35 43 – Environmental Procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with provincial and municipal regulations regarding noise, traffic, and waste management.
- Site Restoration
- Grading and preparation of land for future use, including removal of debris and resurfacing with topsoil and hydroseeding as per Section 32 92 19.16 – Hydraulic Seeding.
- Planting of conifer trees in the vicinity of the demolished building in accordance with Drawing D-7.
